js error

New user trying to just create a basic gallery. From Gutenberg editor, I add Photonic Block, then get Choose Gallery Source popup. I select WordPress (or any other option) then click Next. It hangs on the ‘waiting’ overlay. In the js console I get:

POST http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 500 (Internal Server Error)
