I activated the JSON API and when I make a call for posts, it works perfectly except for one major issue. The metadata field says “false”, even though there are custom fields for every post. Am I missing something?

The JSON API allows you to query for all metadata associated with a post, but won’t include protected metadata by default. That default behaviour can be altered thanks to the rest_api_allowed_public_metadata filter.
