Hi, I’m just getting started with this and am having the following issue and have some general questions too.

I went to the vendors dashboard page and checked apply to be a vendor and then submitted and got a white screen. What is going on? I do have automatically approve vendors turned on and got an email about a pending vendor but don’t know what to do with this email.

More generally, I trying to understand how the plugin works. Tell me if this is right: Vendor uploads product info, website visitor purchases it, money goes to me and a cut is automatically sent to vendor, who must then ship the item out. They are also responsible for all customer support, returns, etc. right?

Also, is there a way to show all products from all vendors in one area for the website visitor to browse?

    Thanks,
    Sam

I figured out the white screen problem, I didn’t have woo commerce pages installed, I think that is what it is called… so I’m in now and figuring it all out. Very sleek, I really like it. One thing I’m noticing is that product page removes my primary sidebar and then takes my secondary one and puts it below the product listing. Any way to control this?

Please still respond to my more general question in my original post. I’m also wondering about liability. Do site owners have any liability for the products being sold (perhaps there is a template waiver that vendors could be required to agree to)? Finally, I’m trying to figure out how much commission to charge, perhaps there is a discussion on this somewhere you could link me to?

    Thanks,
    Sam

“Vendor uploads product info, website visitor purchases it, money goes to me and a cut is automatically sent to vendor, who must then ship the item out. They are also responsible for all customer support, returns, etc. right?”

Yes. The commissions are automatically sent to the vendor if you have a PayPal Adaptive Payments account, and use that checkout gateway, and the vendor has a PayPal account and it’s configured on their Vendor Dashboard > Shop Settings page. Or, you can auto pay commissions with Stripe which is a separate plugin purchased @ wcvendors.com. Otherwise, commissions are entered in a log and you can pay vendors any way you like.

Who is responsible for customer support/returns? That’s up to you. It’s your site. Run it any way you want. 🙂

With all the sidebars and widgets and things like that, those are not WC Vendors related. That’s all up to your theme. WC Vendors doesnt interfere with your theme, and only allows vendors to list products for sale. How your site is displayed to the public, is all your themes concern.

You asked about liability of products being sold, too. I’m not an attorney. 🙂 And even if I was, I dont know where you live and where your customers are, and all countries and regions have different rules.

I cant offer any advice as to how much commission you should charge either, it’s your site, run it any way you see fit. 😉

You might find the Free Help Forums @ http://www.wcvendors.com pretty useful. There’s a ton of great discussions to read there.

    Have fun.

    Thanks Ben,

I will look through the help forums.

The rest of the WCVendor pages (dashboard etc.) all leave the sidebars as they usually are for me, primary sidebar on the right, secondary on the left. It is just the product display page that removes the primary and puts the secondary beneath. Perhaps the product display page is based on a different template than the other WCVendor pages? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,

If you edit the Vendor Dashboard page, you can select which themes template is used by changing it on the side. It’s probably set to “Default”, so tinker around and play with the settings. The options you see there are the options that your theme gives you.

By product display page I meant the /shop/ page. For some reason, no matter what I set the template to, default or otherwise, it always looks the same, primary sidebar gone, secondary at bottom. All the other WCVendors pages respond to template changes, it is just the shop page that does not, for some reason. Maybe there is some kind of a width requirement and my site isn’t wide enough… any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,

There’s a number of ways to do it, it just all depends on your theme and how things are setup.

Google “woocommerce customizing shop page” and you’ll see hundreds of guides and hopefully, one of them will do it for you. 🙂

    OK, I will do that.
