Acho que ele quer que a coluna à esquerda sempre apareça, independente de onde o usuário estiver. Ou seja, em “single posts”, a foto desaparece e uma “sidebar” com o avatar do autor aparece em seu lugar.
É possível transferir essa sidebar com o avatar para a direita, por exemplo, mantendo a coluna da esquerda com a foto?

Isso seria bastante difícil, precisaria alterar muito o arquivo single.php e sidebar.php, além de várias coisas no css.
