Overall, the plug-in works, except… I constantly have to renew the Private token.

My client does a one or two seminars a month. I It seems that after a period of time, I have to go recopy and repaste the token, then it works again. Often she doesn’t post anything for a bit, then there is nothing to fetch, but when she posts something new, nothing shows and I have to renew the token.

To my knowledge there have been no password changes in her EBrite account. Any help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Unless you delete the plugin or in some other way update the options table then the token is persistent.

The most common cause of this issue is that the password has been changed, as Eventbrite regenerates tokens, and there is nothing I can do about that.

Out of thousands of installations of this plugin, including my own demo systems, this is the only instance of a reported issue with tokens that has not been password change related.

I’m not sure what else I can add.

    Having re-read your post

“Often she doesn’t post anything for a bit, then there is nothing to fetch,”

Are you aware there is a 24hour cache, that is also dependent on wp-cron (which is dependent on visitors and therefore not exact )?

Updating a token will clear the cache.

This could be a case of
    1. not waiting long enough
    or
    2. wp-cron not working correctly on your site

I haven’t heard back from you. So I’ll assume it is simply caching as described.

Finally getting to this. On the token issue, are you saying if there is no activity from EBrite that it needs reset? Or do I need to change something in my WPress settings?

Thanks again for your patience and follow up!

    Hi,

I’m probably not explaining it well and confusing the issue.

There is absolutely no reason to have to reset or reenter the API key except when a password at Eventbrite has been changed.

If you are in doubt whether your API key is invalid you can use this page and ‘use your own API key’ and it will tell you if it is valid or not https://fullworks.net/products/widget-for-eventbrite/eventbrite-shortcode-demo/

    Hey Alan,
1- I’m not aware my client is changing her password, she doesn’t think so, but you know how life is. I’m lucky on memories over 20 minutes! LOL
2- Historically, once I go back to EB to “re-copy” the token, then put it in the plugin (again), BINGO, it works. For example () you can see she has a current workshop showing in the right column. (I’ve done nothing with/to the token since submitting this).
3- However, I just added a test event and it does NOT show.
4- I used your API test link and it says, “… nothing found try again …”
5- So if it doesn’t work, how is the ONE event showing?

    SOOOoooo confusing!

Items are cached for 24 hours – so you wont see any new Events for 24 hours unless you do something to ‘break’ the cache.

There are two ways you can break the cache ( without upgrading to pro which has finer cache control)

    1. disable and re-enable the plugin
    2. adding an API key ( which you have discovered )

Regarding the demo system if you added the API correctly under the API key feild it would give the account name and organisation ID. If you didn’t it would say under the field ‘Invalid key’ and show ‘nothing found’. I suspect you just had finger trouble with the demo system – I suggest you try again. If you really think the demo system isn’t working for you -use the contact form to contact me and we can continue via email.

Okay, so when you say, “Cached for 24 hours”, are you saying that if everything is “perfect”, then this new event won’t show up for 24 hours?

    Plugin Author fullworks

    (@fullworks)

Exactly ( on your site, but on the demo system it will show – if it is the first time it has been accessed )

Define “first time it has been accessed?”

And the PRO version allows immediate viewing?

    Plugin Author fullworks

    (@fullworks)

OK on the demo system it also caches for 24 hours – so the first time you use a new API there is nothing to cache, so it will be slower as it has to read from Eventbrite – but will read everything – but thereafter the demo system will ‘remember’ what it has for 24hour so is faster.
