• I want to be able to duplicate pages so I can edit them in draft form while having similar page published. When I am done editing the draft, I want to replace the published page.

Will there be any problems with this process? Are there any know bugs that will affect the published page?

Will I be able to do multiple drafts?

Will I be able to delete the originally published page when I replace it?

    Hi! Thank you for writing.

I’m worried about using Duplicate Post plugin for this use case, because the page that Duplicate Post creates will be a copy (a duplicate) of the original post.

Although the Title and Body will be copied, the time+date and the slug would probably be different which could be a headache. And the Page’s static id number in the database would be different.

What I’m worried is that this, especially the id being different, has the potential to cause unforeseen issues with permalinks, and the potential to cause unforeseen issues with 3rd-party plugins and themes (if one is using 3rd party plugins and themes)

In essence, Am I right that wanting to publish changes to (an) existing Page(s) is the use case at a high level?

    What if one did this?
    This:
    – Keep the “master” copy of the page(s) somewhere else (whether it be in WordPress, or elsewhere), and make the changes in the master copy. Then when it comes time to push the new changes live, use good ol’ copy+paste to paste the changes (like paste the body of the Page) into the Page in your live WordPress site. (also updating the featured image and any other related page data etc.)

*Or*, what if one did this?
    This:
    – Keep a “staging” site — a full copy of the entire WordPress site — somewhere. Make all the changes to the Page(s) on the staging site. Then, as frequently as needed, find some way, like a backup-and-restore process, to push the entire staging site live, overwriting/replacing (updating) the live site.

Not that any of these options is “easy” :-/ but could these be some fresh options to consider?

In the context of your situation, what do you think of these suggestions?
