Language Pack doesn’t work

Hello, I’m experiencing problems with the localization of WordPress.

My PHP is 5.2.4, with gettext enabled. But my WordPress Administration is in English, even though I configured it to pt_BR.

The server I’m running the site is 64-bit, but I already tried the patches given, like this one -> http://trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/ticket/3780. But nothing worked.

Oh, by the way the WP I’m using is version 2.2.2.

Does anyone know any solution for this?
