    Hi

We recently had to update a site theme which was not built with Child theme. In order to preserve the customisation we uploaded the new version of the theme under a new name and used Child Theme referencing the new theme via original installation (Grandchild really).

We are seeing some odd behaviours with relation to second language and on checking the theme we note the following:

    • Original Theme shows the language pack (MN) but not English (which is the primary language)
    • The child theme and new theme do not show any lanugage packs (PO or PT)

We suspect this may be the cause of the problem so the questions we have are:

    • Should be add new language packs (EN & MN) to all 3 versions?
    • If we do, should we add them as Global or within each Theme?
    • If we do either way, how can we preserve the translations already done on the original theme?

I hope this makes sense but I appreciate your help in resolving this issue as it is driving us crazy!

    Regards

My advice is to use a separate text domain for each theme, containing only the strings that are unique to that theme.

    Hi Tim

Thanks for your suggestion. They are already separated under different subfolders.

My question is not how to set the plug in but as to whether by installing the missing packs we will overwrite the existing translations.

Remember the website was working fine using the plugin until the theme update. Since the theme update the packs are missing but strangely enough the website translation is working! The only issue that alerted us to a potential problem was the missing PINS on the property maps. Whilst investigating the issue we found the language packs missing from the new updated theme.

So the question is, if we install the language packs (for the second time) would we overwrite all the translations that has been done already (for some strange reason even with the missing packs the original translations are working!).
