Large Media Database
-
We have several sites with large media databases that we are having a bit difficulty with. We’d like to get a full, detailed and intimate understanding of this issue. Would you please elaborate to the fullest extent you can? To begin…
We saw this comment on your Regenerate Thumbnails plugin page.
“The Photon module makes the images on your site be served from WordPress.com’s global content delivery network (CDN) which should speed up the loading of images. Importantly though it can create thumbnails on the fly which means you’ll never need to use this plugin.”
“You’ll Never Need To Use This Plugin” – This suggests a CDN would negate the need to have any local server thumbnails generated on a given site and we would only have to host one original size image. And, therefore, a CDN (in this case Photon) would generate the thumbnails on the fly on its servers. Correct? Perhaps we am misunderstanding.
We’re sure it’s a very simple explanation. Once we understand this thoroughly, we’ll ask a follow-up question.
Thank you so much for your help!
