I’ve been using Tablepress for over a year now and it is the perfect plugin for what I need. I develop an excel file using visual basic, then upload and filter it for each customer. The issue is coming up that my excel file is becoming very large (nearing 1000 rows x 13 columns). It grows every day with around 500 entries added a year.

I don’t need to edit anything in Tablepress, just upload it and use the shortcode. Just this week I started having an error uploading the xls file. I ended up saving a copy as an xlsx and I could upload it. We normally operate on a 7 year purge so I could be looking at 3500+ rows when it starts to purge.

Am I going to exceed the limitations of Tablepress? Has anyone had experience with tables that were just to big for Tablepress?

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

The Excel importers are not very robust, and can therefore sometimes run into limitations when importing, e.g. the PHP Memory Limit.
The most reliable work around would then be to use the CSV format.
If the issue happens again with that, you could try to increase the PHP memory limit, via https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

With a large table like this, the “Edit” screen will indeed not be usable, but the import should work.

    Hi Tobias,

No trouble, this plugin has been great for me. I did read that tip, to increase PHP memory limit, in the forums. It didn’t help me in uploading the xls file but the xlsx workaround isn’t a big deal. I was thinking a csv may be the best route. I’ll try that if I run into further issues.

It sounds like I should be okay overall though. Thank you for the response.
