Latest Posts widget extremely slow

hi folks,

wp-united works perfectly for me and i am very happy with it, except for one thing. the “latest posts” widget is extremely slow on my blog. sites where i do not use the widget take less than 1s to load, sites where i use it take over 10s. is there any way to speed it up? thanks in advance!
