Latest update breaks tracking
-
I’ve been using Google Analyticator for years on a couple sites just because it seemed cool to add it directly through the CMS. The latest update, sadly, breaks. My first experience was after clicking update to 6.4.9.6. When I clicked on Settings, it went to a page that said “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” I disabled it.
In a brand new site, I figured I’d try the latest update to see if it would work. I ran it for a full day and no traffic data, kept checking settings, everything seemed OK. Again I had to disable the plug-in.
The reality is, Google Analytics is a much safer way to go and has a few different methods of incorporating the tracking code depending on your needs, including the new Google Tag Manager.
For those of you who don’t use FTP, just get your Tracking Code from Google Analytics, go to the Editor in WordPress, find header.php, and paste right before the closing </head> tag. (This is where Google suggests putting it, not the footer, but that’s another story.)
