Latest update does not work

WP 3.1.2, BP 1.2.8 in multi-site (network) mode. I am using the recently updated version and have placed the BP_DISABLE_ADMIN_BAR directive in the wp-config.php. I’m using a theme called BuddyBass which I like. The Login tab does not appear and, what is stranger, when I login as the super-admin the BP admin bar appears and when I login as a user (in a different browser) the WordPress admin bar appears. I tried applying the helpful hint in forums which was to add:
52 <body <?php body_class() ?> id="bp-default"> 53 <?php if(function_exists(updateHeader)) updateHeader(); ?>But this also made no difference. Pity, cos this plugin looks really slick!
