    Hello.

I run a WordpRess blog, the core files of which have been provided not by ww.wp.xz.cn, to upload to a random server, but the core files of which have been provided by Debian / Linux, for which reason I am stating such a weird version number. 🙂 However, my ability to use ww.wp.xz.cn plug-ins is not hampered in general, as most plug-ins work as-is.

I just received the update, of User Role Editor, from version 4.39 to version 4.40.

Version 4.39 was working just fine. But now, with version 4.40, when I try to modify the settings, under either

Sidebar -> Settings -> User Role Editor, or under
Sidebar -> Users -> User Role Editor,

I just get a blank settings page. In my Apache error log, I get the PHP error message:

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_roles() in /var/lib/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/user-role-editor/includes/classes/ure-lib.php on line 567, referer: http://dirkmittler.homeip.net/blog/wp-admin/edit.php

I suppose that somebody just made some slight mistake with this update. But could you please fix it?

    Dirk

According to the WordPres.org site, this function was introduced in version 4.3:

    Function Reference

Because of that, it does not make sense to indicate that your plug-in will work, as of WP-version 4.0, nor on my version 4.1…

So the actual bug is, that your users need WordPress v4.3 , in order to use the latest versions of your plug-in.

    Thanks, Dirk, for this report.
I missed this backward compatibility issue.
I changed required WordPress version from 4.0 to 4.3 now without changing User Role Editor version.

I know that some people have to use older WordPress versions. I will return more universal code (as it’s not critical) for compatibility with WP 4.0+ with the next update.
