  • @webgrehlakshmi  Thanks for getting in touch. I was able to see other’s stories on the dashboard, but please note that users with the role of Author cannot edit other people’s posts. Users with the role of Administrator and Editor can do that.

Does this error occur when the author is trying to add a poster image to the story they created?

Could you please share a screen recording of your experience using a service such as Loom or Recordit then share the URL here?

In this video link Firstly Check the Author (Wamika) Screen recoding. Author can’t save ,edit the web stories and Not find the any stories of other author on same dashboard. But in Last Admin (Gopal) can save and edit web stories.

This is issue comes from last 2 days. and i have uodate latest version. but now same issue is happend.

Plz resolve the issue fast bcz our team is waiting for making web stories.

@webgrehlakshmi Thank you for sharing. Let’s rule out if this is a conflict with another plugin or your theme, or even a server configuration issue.

    Please do the following:

    1.  Use a Chrome incognito window. Clear any plugin cache.
    2. Temporarily disable all other plugins
    3. Temporarily activate a default theme like Twenty-Twenty One
    4. Check your to see if the issue occurs

Tip: use a plugin like https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/health-check/ to do these steps without actually affecting your visitors

Also, please provide your Site Health information and share it privately if you prefer.

This could be due to a potential problem with how capabilities are set up on your site.

You could try uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling it, that should reset the capabilities. Important: uncheck the “Remove all data including stories and saved templates when uninstalling the Web Stories plugin” checkbox on the Web Stories settings screen first before doing so, to avoid data loss. Make a backup of your site, just in case.

Alternatively, you can use a plugin like Members to compare tha capabilities between Author role and other roles to see what’s missing.

For example, the Author role should have capabilities like edit_web-stories

i have already checked the all capabilities of Admin, author and editor. everything is fine. but In the case i uninstall the web stories plugin, our company web stories will removed (2.5K above web stories) or not. if yes. what we can do.

plz give some other alternative option for same. i think there is some little mistake can’t find it.

but In the case i uninstall the web stories plugin, our company web stories will removed (2.5K above web stories) or not. if yes. what we can do.

I repeat: uncheck the “Remove all data including stories and saved templates when uninstalling the Web Stories plugin” checkbox on the Web Stories settings screen.

After that, you can uninstall the plugin and install it again, without losing your stories.

I recommend doing this on a staging site first and back up your site before doing so!

Note: If this does not work, and you have already checked the capabilities, then there is something else causing such a conflict on your site and I recommend consulting with your website administrator/developer to find the issue.

    (@webgrehlakshmi)

We don’t use any capabilities for web stories for Any user role(Admin, Author, and Editor) all are same.

But this error ( failed to save story: sorry, you are not allowed to edit the web stories_poster_custom field (Forbidden)). i think this is not related to capabilities.

    Plugin Author Pascal Birchler

    (@swissspidy)

This error message is exactly because of a failed capability check.

If you say all the capabilities are the same, then something else on your site is interfering with the capability checks on your site dynamically.

    You can test this yourself by hooking into the auth_post_meta_web_stories_poster_for_web-story filter. You could even try force-skipping the capability checks for testing purposes using something like add_filter( 'auth_post_meta_web_stories_poster_for_web-story', '__return_true', 100 );

Again, I recommend asking your site admin/developer to help debug this specific configuration on your site.

We are going to mark your topic as resolved as we haven’t received a response. Please feel free to open a new support topic if you experience any other issues. Thank you!
