left image text

I am trying to create a list of posts by category that show the thumbnail (featured image) to the left with heading and copy to the right, as shown in the default image. However when I do this it is only showing the text & not the image. If I switch to top the image returns and displays correctly on top, but if i select left or right it doesn’t show up at all. I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong please help!
