Lightbox confusion???

I am having trouble getting the light box to work, so my first question is how do you use it correctly? I can’t find a good tutorial anywhere. Just grabbing the shortcode does nothing. Also grabbing the cheat sheet example does nothing.

I’d like to use it, but it seems I need some sort of work around.

My understanding of a lightbox is that you click a button and it displays the text you add in a lightbox. I can’t seem to make it work.

Any help is appreciated. Other shortcodes work fine. I’m using the table mostly, but others work, just not the lightbox.
