• Hello,

So I am trying to figure out with is the best ‘lightbox’ effect plugin, but none of them seem to preload images (those that do preload only the next image, and then I have to wait) Any one know know how to adjust the preloading options? I live in South Africa and our internet connection isn’t that fast though with most other sites I visit, everyone’s galleries and photos laod quicker…

I am mostly using it in conjunction with GextGen Gallery.

I’ve tried Lightbox 2, Fancybox, Colourbox, Shutter, Thickbox, Facebox, etc etc, and they are mostly the same.

Is it possibly just a simple jquery script issue?

An example to my site and an album is:

Thanks for your time. I’ve been using my last couple days to try figure this one out…

  • Did you find the answer to this? I have the same question…

I’ve just tested it a bit better. Actually, it is preloading. I use nextgen which comes automatically with shutter and thickbox. It increases the loading times for my blog quite a lot, but fortunately it loads all the other blog posts’ text first. However, when the page has totally finished loading, it has actually finished preloading all of the images. It is especially quick in shutter. For some reason, thickbox has a delay, even after images have preloaded.

Forget my last posts, I’ve got a new tool (firebug) which allows you to see exactly when which items are being downloaded and in which order.

If I am not mistaken, only thumbnails are loaded when you see a post with photos. When you click on one of the photos, it brings that up in the ‘modal window’ (e.g. shutter). When you view one image in the modal window, it will preload the next one. It won’t do more than one.
