• Why is this still an issue? Line breaks, br’s, p’s all being removed. People have complained for YEARS but yet it still remains an issue when switching from visual to html and back… I am just curious as to why such a widespread issue that has been an issue and asked for for years still an issue 5-6 years later…

Can anyone give me a REAL answer to this?

    Thanks
    Tom

  • It might help if you clarified exactly what you are talking about. Best guess – you’re referring to switching from the Text editor to the Visual editor and back again but I am not 100% sure.

Yes – It has been common knowledge for years that this is an issue, there are hundreds of posts in the forums from as far back as 2008 about it but everyone only offers a work around for it – i am just curious as to why it is something that keeps being an issue at all after so many years.

Because text editors and wysiwyg editors are two completely different beasts. If you bit into an apple, would you expect it to taste like an orange?. 😉

By design, almost all wysiwyg editors will remove markup as that’s simply not how they are intended to work. TinyMCE (which is actually a 3rd party editor ported into WordPress) is no different and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
