    Hello, I have the latest (2.8.5) version of EWWW Image Optimizer on WordPress 4.5.2 on Linux hosting.

    Got this message: “EWWW Image Optimizer uses jpegtran, optipng, pngout, pngquant, gifsicle, and cwebp. You are missing: jpegtran, optipng, gifsicle. Please install via the Settings Page or the Installation Instructions.”

    ewww folder permissions: 755

    Tools installed, ok.
    Go to Bulk Optimization and again:
    “EWWW Image Optimizer uses jpegtran, optipng, pngout, pngquant, gifsicle, and cwebp. You are missing: jpegtran, optipng, gifsicle. Please install via the Settings Page or the Installation Instructions.”

    Obviously, EWWW can not optimize images.

    Ask your webhost what distribution and version of linux they are running, but as it stands now, the binaries are incompatible with whatever they are using on your server.

    Thank for your quick reply, we will contact our webhost and will make you know. By the way, how can you understand from debug that tools are incompatible with the OS?

    Since there is no output from the ewww_image_optimizer_tool_found() function, that means one of these things:

    1. the binaries are incompatible
    2. your webhost has blocked the execution of the binaries by some means we cannot detect

    While I certainly believe #2 could be the case, and I’ve seen this specifically on Cloudways hosting, it is more common for #1 to happen when there are hundreds of different linux distributions available.

    There used to be a #3, where the output was just being suppressed, but that is what the “blind” tests check (by comparing the optimized file size of a sample image with the original).

    I built it originally for just such occasions when the webhost refused to allow EWWW to operate in local mode, although it now has some pretty cool advanced compression methods too.

    We got an answer from our webhost. They say they use Cloudlinux 6 as OS (Apache server) and that they upgraded PHP from 5.3 to 5.4, suggesting us to retry to install the tools. We tried, it did not work, still “tools not found”. Have you any idea on what is going wrong with the tools?

    Hmm, Cloudlinux is just CentOS 6 with a few extra packages, and I’ve run it successfully myself on Cloudlinux. Since they are running 64-bit, see if they will install the 32-bit compatibility libraries for the server.

    Our webhost said they can’t/don’t want enable or install any other software and unluckily we can’t use your API, sorry.

    We are a group of student, and we are working on the school’s online newspaper, and the school manages money for newspaper’s hosting etc.

    EWWW had been an awesome free solution until we had to switch server, you did a really good job!
