List sub categories advanced

Hi all,

Hope you can give me some advice with this.

I’m building a portfolio site for a photographer.
On a parent category page I want to display the sub categories with a thumbnail image, title of the sub category, sub category description and a link.

Something like this:

Thumbnail
Sub category title
Sub category description
Link to sub category
————————-

etc…

Haven’t found any plugin for this. Have any of you done something similar? Maybe I’m making this more complicated than it is.

All advices are very welcome.
