Local Image (mass) Uploading

    I am running WP on my local server and would like to upload numerous images to my upload folder. Since I am local, is it possible for me to simply toss the images into the folder and skip the upload process altogether? Will WP associate the images with posts once I insert them via the post editor? I need to be sure before I take this route then go to a live server.
