Local Like and Share plugin – reset data?
-
I like this plugin but there seems to be no way to reset the data. I did an experimental ‘share’ and I would like to delete it, but I can’t find a ‘reset data’ button. Anyone have any idea, please?

Hi Tony,
First of all, thanks for giving Local Like And Share a try!
I’m sorry it is missing functionality you need.
As a matter of fact, adding a “reset data” button is literally the first thing on my list of enhancements. Seriously. π
Is what you’re looking for a single button that would delete ALL data (both likes and shares [or whichever you have enabled, if not both])? As opposed to something more granular (e.g., a button to delete only likes, another button to delete only shares, or something allowing for deletion by timespan, etc.)?
Please let me know so I can include this functionality in with some other updates to the plugin I’m currently working on for a pending release.
In the meantime, I don’t know how comfortable you are with MySQL database administration, but if you’re feeling adventurous, and just want to brute-force delete your “share(s)”, I can give you a SQL statement to do it.
Thanks,
DevonHi Devon
First up, congratulations on your, which is nice and simple both to install and, from a user’s perspective, easy and intuitive. Lovely.
Y’know, I hadn’t thought of any of that when I asked the question. I’d only just installed the plugin and I’d tried a ‘test’ share and in this instance that was the only one I wanted to delete. So in the long run, one more share isn’t going to hurt.
But I suppose it does serve to bring up the question, doesn’t it? Reset – how? I can’t imagine wanting to delete individual clicks, except early on in the usage history, as in this case. Maybe a button to delete all likes, one for all shares, globally (for the whole blog) and/or maybe one for just a named blog post or page?
I am not comfortable with SQL; early HTML is my limit I’m afraid – but thanks for the offer anyway.
I hope this is all helpful. Once again, thanks for this excellent plugin!
Cheers
TonyHi Tony,
I am glad that you are OK with your situation for now. π
Thanks for the input. I think I will play with a couple of different approaches to see what makes the most sense with the View Statistic admin page laid out as it is presently. I do believe that a button for reseting all like counts (to 0) and another button for reseting all share counts is hard to argue with, at least for starters.
As I mentioned in my previous note, I have some other refinements to the plugin that I want to get released soon too, so I may just go with the two buttons for now, in the interest of time. If they don’t end up covering your future use cases and/or others clamor for something additional/different, we’ll go from there.
I appreciate the kind words and, most of all, your willingness to try a new plugin!
Thanks,
DevonYou’re thanking me? I’m the one who needs to thank you! But it’s appreciated anyway π The plugin is just what I wanted, it’s great that its simple.
I suppose maybe one day the *option* of sharing via FB, Twatter or whatever could be added, but the simple email share is just great. I wonder in fact if it is worth destroying the simplicity by adding in other sharing routes; I suppose as long as the simplicity can be maintained it would be ok.
But thanks again for the plugin, like I said it was just what I was looking for!
Hi Tony,
Just to wrap up this thread, Local Like And Share v1.0.1, released today, contains functionality allowing an admin to reset all like counts and/or reset all share counts.
When you have a chance to upgrade, please let me know what you think!
Thanks,
DevonLooks simple enough to use, Devon, from the user’s point of view – and thanks for putting in the time on this. Is it right that it’s just a complete reset using those buttons, not on a post-by-post basis?
Cheers
TonyOh and is there an ‘Are you sure?’ prompt to prevent accidental resetting? I haven’t tried the buttons…
Hi Tony,
No problem – thanks again for your input!
Yes, it is strictly “reset all likes” or “reset all shares”, at this point. And, yes, you get an “Undo” link after you press one of the buttons. Be sure you hit it right-then-and-there, if you want to undo the delete as that is your one opportunity to undo the delete (through the admin pages, at least).
Please let me know what you think if/when you have a reason to use it. π
Thanks,
Devon
