Neither, I installed Apache and PHP myself.

You need to make sure that’s installed and set up. Do you know how to do that manually?

Uhh… Nope. I uncommented the line in httpd.conf that says LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so, but I still get the 404s. Is there something else to do?
Did you restart apache after making the change?

Several times. Also restarted the computer.
are you opposed to using xampp or wamp? you could be up and running in like 10 minutes
