Localisation / editing sub-headers

I have downloaded and installed a localisation file in my preferred language. After installation, it translated everything within the “administration section” but nothing visible for the visitor – e.g. search, categories, leave a comment. etc.

I have opened the relevant file in an editor but the fields I’m looking for seems to be correctly translated.

Could it be that the file I downloaded was for wordpress 2.1 when I’m running 2.2? Does it really make a difference?

Is there any way for me to translate these headings manually by just eding the PHP files? Which php file / files I’m I looking for?

I’m also interested in translating the name of the index page – which is called “blog” to “start” or something similiar.
Please advice.
