    Hello,

We have a website in three languages with urls like example.com, example.com/fr/ and example.com/es/.

On the Sitemap Settings tab of Rank Math it says the plugin uses hreflang tags as one of the recommended methods by Google. An different method also recommended by Google is using “<xhtml:link rel=”alternate” hreflang” tags in the sitemap. I want to use that in our sitemap because Google is mixing up the languages in the SERPS.

Do you have an option for that in the plugin or do I need to create my own sitemap?

    Hello @jdewit

Thank you for contacting the support and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Sorry to disappoint but we do not have any option to add xhtml:link in the Sitemap.

Also, I do not think adding it would make any difference. If Google is showing wrong pages in SERP then you should check those pages and see if the hreflang tags are showing the correct languages.

You can share the links with us so we can check as well.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I agree hreflang should be enough but Google still mixes up pages which is why I wanted to experiment with rel=’alternate’ in our sitemap. We don’t have many pages so I will create one myself.

    Hello @jdewit

Sure. Please disable Rank Math’s Sitemap feature and Core’s Sitemap feature before adding one manually.

    Thank you.
