I would suggest using one of the “no float” stylesheets. Otherwise with the theme you are using, you are probably going to need to set up a custom stylesheet to get the floated elements to align. See: http://rocketgeek.com/plugins/wp-members/users-guide/customizing-forms/

I changed it to No Float, however now there is a small problem with the Login button masking the ‘forgot my password’ link. What would be the most simple way to move the login button down a little bit more? Or arrange it so that it isn’t masking anything else.

The content area is pretty narrow which doesn’t give you as much space as the form would usually have. If you give the .link-text class a top margin property, I would guess 30px would do it.
