Sounds like perhaps the 2FA plugin you’re using is not registering the 2FA code you’re entering.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

I’ve just set up an FTP account on Bluehost, but when I download CyberDuck and try to open it, it says my Mac doesn’t have a program to open the download?

I’m not sure if cPanel’s quick configure for CyberDuck is compatible anymore. Consult BlueHost’s documentation on how to manually configure your FTP client.

Could this be done from the file manager if she can’t configure FTP?

@ James Huff: I’m not sure how I would go about manually configuring my FTP client? Where would I find that information? I’ve done a quick Google search and come up with nothing.

@ Freddie: I’d be interested in hearing more. πŸ™‚

I’m 98% sure that Bluehost’s cPanel still has the File Manager module, so yes.

In BlueHost’s documentation, and Cyberduck’s documentation. The method varies depending on hosting provider, server configuration, and FTP client.

Go to your cPanel and locate the “File Manager” button for your site. It’ll ask you what you want to see just select your sites root and click continue. At this point you should go to public_html and find your WordPress install.

Look for the wp-content folder and click that to open and you should see the plugin folder. Right click the plugin that is giving you this issue and add -disabled to the end. So if the plugin is named “Authenticator” you’ll change it to “Authenticator-disabled”.

Now you should be able to login to your site if that plugin was the issue.

Freddie, amazing! I’m in! Thank you SO much!

So, now that I’m in, how do I handle the issue? Ideally I can use a working authenticator, but obviously I don’t want to run into this issue again.

Which authenticator plugin are you using?

No problem Bree I’ve been in these situations too many times before so I know how it feels, good luck!

@james Huff: I’m using WP Google Authenticator.

Ok, I haven’t used that one myself, but I believe if you delete it via the Plugins section in the Dashboard, that will delete its settings too, sort of resetting it.

You can then either reinstall it, or use an alternative like https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/two-factor/ or https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/two-factor-authentication/

If deleting doesn’t reset it, but you still want to use this specific one, I recommend reporting the issue at https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/wp-google-authenticator so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.
