Login stuck

    I recently updated the PHP to 7.2, and upon updating, anyone that tries to login on one of the blocked pages is not forwarded to the successful login screen, the login information just disappears and it looks like they need to log in again. The strange thing is that they ARE in fact logged in and can access any of the blocked pages except the one they log into.

    If they log into the “Member’s Area” page they can’t access the “Member’s Area” page, but they can access the “What’s New” page, and vice versa.

    It would be great if I could just set the site back to the older version of PHP, but the only options I have are 7.1 and 7.2 and they both seem to cause the same issue. I ran a compatibility test before updating, but no issues came up. Any ideas?

    I’m going to have the php set back by my hosting service, so that should take care of the issue

    You “updated” to php 7.2? 7.2 is nearing End of Life (Jan 1, 2021). It is currently in the “security fixes only” stage of its life cycle.

    You should be on 7.4, which is the current version in active support, and what is recommended for WordPress.

    That being said, there isn’t anything in the login process that would be any different between PHP versions. Very little has changed in that area of the plugin, and it primarily uses WP’s core functions (such as wp_signon() and authenticate). There’s nothing there that isn’t compatible with PHP versions going back into 5.x.

    The issue described sounds like a cache issue. If you’re using a cache plugin, or if your host applies server-side cacheing, then it may be an issue there when changing PHP versions.
