  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Thanks Esmi. I tried the plugins thing first since it was easier, but no luck.

So just so I’m clear: should I delete the twentyten folder I already have in my themes folder before renaming my current theme twentyten?

    thanks!

No. Rename your current theme and then try logging in. That should activate Twenty Ten.

Activated Twenty Ten. Still no luck logging in. Shoot!

    Try:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Hey Esmi,
Had already reset the plugins folder; that didn’t work. I’ll try re-uploading the two folders you mention. Thanks…

Quick followup…will re-uploading these two folders mean I need to “start over” with my blog or will it leave my blog untouched?

Your blog’s content will remain untouched.

    thx…doing it now. fingers crossed!

    Shoot…no luck!

Do you have an .htaccess file in your root domain and/or the WordPress folder?

    Thread Starter laurascholes

    (@laurascholes)

Hmmm…have no idea. How could I find that out?

And just a reminder, I’m logged in currently on Firefox, and can access my admin, but know at some point I’m going to have to restart my laptop and be totally screwed if I can’t log in again.

You’ll need to use FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides) to access your site. But be aware that many FTP clients are configured, by default, to hide .htaccess files – so ensure that your software is set to display all files.

    Two more suggestions:

    1. Try adding a new user via your open tab and then see if you can login as the new user via another browser.

    2. Try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false ); to the bottom of your wp-config.php file (just before the require_once line).

I’m in the FTP for my site…did a “Find” on .htaccess but got no results (is there another way to search?). I’m using Fetch, but don’t see any place in preferences to change a setting so it displays all files.
Thanks again for all of your help.
