To put flesh on the bones, I have set up a new user. They can log in if I make them subscriber, author or admin, but not editor.
Weird.
However, in author role they can not do one of the things I need, which is to allow them to use Mailpoet.
Any ideas how to give an author access to Mailpoet, then I would be happy!

To do this you can change the capabilities of a role or you can create a specific new user role.
Could be done with for example the Plugin: User Role Editor.
