• Here we go again… Yet another problem after updating. It seems to becoming a regular occurrence:( (for me and my windows server) I feel nervous every with every wp update. Once again my fears are justified. I wish I didn’t like WP so much, or I would have thrown in the towel by now..

    I have just updated to 3.9 and now I can’t access any admin.

    Everything looks normal until I click something, then I get this error message :-

    WordPress database error Duplicate key name ‘slug’ for query ALTER TABLE wp_wppa_index ADD KEY slug (slug(20)) made by require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-admin\admin.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-load.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-config.php’), require_once(‘H:\hshome\photopostman\historyhunters.co.uk\wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), call_user_func_array, wppa_setup, dbDelta.

    I noticed that it ‘hung’ while installing and I didn’t get a ‘successfully installed’ message. I did wait a good time but had to eventually close the browser. Maybe I was a bit too hasty, and it was just taking a long time?

    If anyone can translate the above Klingon hieroglyphics for me, I would be eternally grateful.

    Btw.. My site still works fine… Just a prob with admin.

    Cheers..

    I have recovered my site admin by replacing the whole directory with a recent backup. A message came up to say the database had changed. I then just clicked update button.. and all is back . Don’t know where this leaves me though. This could mean I will never be able to update wp again, knowing that if i did it will break my site. Is this the beginning of the end of my wordpress site. I’m worried…

    I would try MANUALLY uploading the WP core files for 3.9 again. If the same thing happens, you can manually copy the 3.8.3 ones on top of them to revert.

    how do you manually copy 3.8.3 over a failed 3.9 upgrade?

    @gr8fl

    Easily done with your FTP client, or the file manager in your hosts control panel. Reference: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update

    I cannot get into my WP admin at all.

    The process outlined in the reference pages seems very complicated.

    I cannot deactivate plugins.
    The download link is for 3.9. I did find the page for older versions: http://ww.wp.xz.cn/download/release-archive/

    I have the old stuff backed up.

    This is very upsetting.

    GR8FL – Please make your own topic, as this is for Bzerka and I suspect you’re not on Windows IIS 🙂
