Lost Super Admin

    Hi. I have lost my superadmin.

    I mentioned this in another post but it was separate and this is urgent.

    I started updating some plugins and forgot to untick voucherpress which needs manual upload.

    So it got stuck in maintenance mode.

    I deleted voucherpress and somehow got out of maintenance mode but now it shows that there is an unfinished update all the time for everyone.

    At the same time I had to go in the database to delete voucherpress data as I though that may help and, while there, deleted a couple of spam members PLUS one that had said they were going to come and fix WP3TC for me and so had superadmin rights but who never bothered.

    Suddenly I lost all superadmin rights myself to the site.

    I have checked in the database and the meta is right for me to have superadmin rights but its gone, so now I am helpless on my site. I cant even fix plugins as I have them hidden to blog users and I am now only normal administrator on the front blog.

    PLEASE can someone help me.

    Do you have a database backup of before you started playing with all that?

    Well, to be honest, removing a member and one plugin has never actually caused me grief before. I have always gone in that way to make sure things are removed. Also removing him should not have touched me at all.

    So the simple answer is no. I have got a full backup of a week or so before but I then will have lost all my members data they have since put on and they would not be too impressed.

    There must be something simple that has caused this or that is missing. I am looking for that option before upsetting other people.

    Get a copy of the old DB and pull out those users you deleted. I can only guess that you somehow accidentky deleted something you need when you removed the other admin, so if you can restore JUST that, you may be okay.

    LOL I am trying to find it… I have a horrible feeling my dearly beloved deleted it as I had ftpd it to his site.

    I tried making a new site on another domain, starting afresh and then importing my first blog in, then I can move that to my site tomorrow and import all the members blogs as-is.. unfortunately the server just throws up errors as the blog (even monthly) is too big.

    Feeling very slightly stupid now 🙁 (shhhh)

    Have no fear, go into the db again.

    Look up the wp_sitemeta table.

    Find the meta key with the value of admin_user_id. Should be on the first page, right there.

    Make sure that matches YOU, your actual ID in the system. I was the first user, so for me it was 1.

    Hi Andrea, I checked in there and it says me but it also said the other person I removed so I now have it as me.

    However I still have no super admin#

    What I have noticed in the user_meta is that I have a whole field missing so am going to try and pop that in.

    wp_usersettings and
    wp_usersettingstime

    I have NO idea how they were removed.

    ok that just wiped ALL mysusers off as I have no idea how to INSERT a field… *sigh*

    Put all members back but no extra field and no superadmin for me

    ok found out (how cool) but its made no difference. I STILL have no super admin.

    Does the super admin fields have your email address in it?

    Just a week before this, all my scheduled posts stopped going on. Kept saying the schedule had been missed so I had to go in and edit and publish them. Not sure if this means anything.

    I cant even make a new site because I cant get in to the members blogs to export them to it.

    ok well obviously nobody knows whats wrong or how to change it so, can someone please let me know how to bring over all my users to a NEW wordpress install without knocking me as admin off the database? Everytime I try I end up with the bad me on it and everytime I try and put the clean me on it knocks off all my members.

    Your problem as such is so involved it’s not that we don’t know, it’s that somebody would have to go in and poke aroudn and LOOK in order to fix it. and I doubt it;d be an easy quick fix either.

    Users can only be exported via the database. Go in phpmyadmin and pick everyone except your old admin account.

    Yes, of course you are right and I am very happy for someone to do that if they wanted to. In fact if anyone (trustworthy) wanted to then please feel free to let me know in the next day and if not then I will try and make a new one on Thursday 🙁
