• First of all my score has gone down since moving from http to https though the main problem I’m having with pagespeed is:

    1. Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content but they seem to be two cache files. I tried adding them to W3 Total Cache but that just made the problem worse.

    2. Optimise CSS delivery

I’ve tried numerous plugins with no luck. Just trying to at least get back in the green section so any help will be appreciated.

P.S Still working on the images on the desktop tab. I am aware of this. Its just a pain due to it automatically resizing for sections of the theme.

  • Google’s page speed while accurate about the problems causing your site to be slow tends to not come back with accurate percentages compared to other website speed tests such as pingdom or gtmetrix. I am not sure why the other two give more accurate scores then googles own test but I did just run your site through the other two and got 92% and 88% respectively where google’s test which you linked to returns a 71%.

For the second item, optimise css delivery, can you tell us what plugins you have tried? Also, are you using CDN or caching on your site?

    Hi.

I’m using W3 total cache but it seems to then create the problem of optimise CSS delivery. I’m not using a CDN, but am using cache from W3.

This means you have the CSS settings misconfigured in W3TC. Would you mind sharing who your host is? The optimal settings for W3TC can change from host to host and even server to server on the same host depending on the plan you have.

    Hi

Sorry for delay in posting. Host is with UK Fast hosts.

I’ll have to try and find settings for CSS on W3.

On the main settings page for W3TC I would advise using the default settings for the CSS & JS options.

Same goes for the settings under Performance >> Minify … I would leave those on the default.

If default settings are set and you are still getting the error saying to “Optimize CSS Delivery” then disable the minification options all together.

Yeh, they’re the setings I already have. If I disable I get a lower score. Will have to dig further.

Thanks for all your help. Is appreciated 🙂
