I am also having this issue I use gmail and bold items and also double line break for new paragraph but that does not seem to be working either. I have enabled HTML type and have checked allow HTML in body. I can send you a copy of what the email contained and then you can see on my site what was posted.

As you can see there are only minor variation between the 3. That implies that some other plugin or your theme is causing your issues.

I don’t expect you to use it long term, thus the word “temporarily” – the point was to test with twentyfifteen to see if the issue goes away.

I don’t know why fonts decreased in WP on this example but that was not the question, I have mainly problem with bold attribute and space between paragraphs…
So it seems the theme or another plugin could be the problem so I will test with Twentyfifteen theme and let you know the result…
