Our MC owner moved on so we created a new owner. This lost our API key so we generated a new API key, connected MC4WP, renewed MC audience, Good license. The subscribe status for our users in WP now shows MC subscribe status 401 code instead of subscribed, unsubscribed or cleaned. We spoke with MC tech support, they are not familiar with the error and directed us here. We are doing a Manual Synchronization to see if that helps. I am not a developer but an administrator tossed in this role after our old owner retired. I would appreciate any assistance. [email protected]

    Hi,

The “Member In Compliance State” error means that the email you’re using to test with is unsubscribed, and can’t be resubscribed over the API.

For testing it’s best to use a new / fresh email every time. If you email host allows putting a + behind the name and then some random string, that would be a way to create test emails.

    Kind regards,

Please pardon my user skill set as I am not a developer. Here is the fix that I stumbled on this afternoon if you need to generate a new API Key and get the user status code of 401 in user edit.

Generate a new API Key in MailChimp. Paste the key in WC4WP and make sure your new API Key is connected in MC4WP. Then go to your WordPress settings >>WP-Members>>MailChimp Tab. You will find in this area your OLD API Key. Enter your new API Key. Go to edit users and edit a user account, the user MailChimp tab at the bottom of your user-edit will switch from 401 code back to the subscribed, unsubscribed or cleaned state data.

I thank the team here for answering some emails giving me instructions but it is not a bug in MC4WP, it’s just in knowing what to look for. I found nothing on the internet for help, AI functions do not have this info, but the fix is so simple.
