Hi! I scanned my site with WordFence and it says that index.php in main directory was modified. Except it wasn’t. It looks like WordFence is comparing main index.php with wp-admin/index.php.

I upload original WordPress files in these two directories and WordFence still says it is modified. I think it’s a bug. Any ideas?

Hi @deha21, thanks for your report on this.

I had recently seen a case of the “silence is golden” index.php files that appear in locations such as /wp-content, /plugins, and /themes copied to the root directory index.php, but not a report of differences when they’re restored back to the originals.

If viewing file differences genuinely match 100% without any hidden characters, you may be safe to ignore the result. Please also note that if you’ve not run a full manual scan since restoring the original files, the differences may still be reported until you do.

Let me know if that makes any difference,
    Peter.
