    Because this may create an accessibility barrier for some users who will be unable to navigate back to the original page using the browser back button. Why not just right click and open in new tab?

    That sounds like a reason.
    But is it not possible that made changes to settings, and not saved, be messed around?

    Another solution is to look for something like a tooltip, that explains it in short, with a link to the codex site.
