Make links look better

Just got my site up and running!

However, my links look really boring when I post them to facebook for an example. I’m sure this has been discussed before but I’m not sure what to search for.

When I post a link from my site on facebook it doesn’t show a picture, it only shows the title and who posted it.

I want it to include a picture from the post, my excerpt text and not show the user who posted it. How do I do this?

I would suggest searching for plugins that allow you to customize posts as they appear in Facebook. Here are a couple of suggestions:

I’ve tried that. And sure, that might help me when I publish new posts but I want my links to look better when people “like” existing posts, the main page etc.

Any idea on how to get this right?

Whenever I post stuff from my other blog (http://blog.felixswensson.com) my links turn out nicely with a description text and a picture. For that blog I’m using no plugins for that function.

Any ideas?

It looks like you are using open graph meta tags. To have text show up with your link, use the og:description tag. For example, right now you have <meta property=”og:description” content=”admin”/> on “http://www.teskedsorden.se/for-skolan/hur-man-botar-en-fanatiker/bestall-boken/”. When I paste the URL into my status box on Facebook, the description text is “admin” (without the quotes). Change the description here: <meta property=”og:description” content=”[Enter your description here]”/>

Same for the image. Use <meta property=”og:image” content=”[your image URL here]”/>. On the same page, you have that filled in correctly, but Facebook is pulling images from the home page (spoons picture). That one might be Facebook’s fault.

I’ll see if I can solve it. I get what facebook does, but how do I change that? Input code to all my posts and pages?

Actually, I just found a plugin called Facebook Open Graph Meta.

I’ll try it out and see if it helps me with my problem.

Doesn’t work.. Tried using CEO plugin by Yoast and changed a few things around. Nothing happens.

My links still look terrible. Any ideas?

Seems things are working fine now. There were problems between CEO plugin and other facebook plugins.

Only one problem remains. On the startpage it chooses the wrong picture. Any way to manually define “og:image” in a post?

I’m not sure if you’re still using a plugin for your Facebook Open Graph meta data. These two offer the option of defining a default image:

On the site for that last one, they include instructions for adding the Open Graph meta data to your theme:
