It simply removes the add to cart button from products marked as invisible.
But you have to uncheck the modify query option to make it work

I have even tested cheked.
Hum I think I got it.
If you mark the product as invisible and have the modify query option unchecked the product will not be visible anymore on shop page, but the single product page will still be accessible. You can access it knowing the product link.
It’s on the single product page that the “Make non purchasable” option will work removing the “add to cart” button.
