Make plugin compatible with wordpress version

    Is there a way to make a plugin compatible with all versions .
    meaning if I have a plugin that I don’t want to update because it’s working fine and don’t want to add more features,but at the same time I don’t want to change the code to make it compatible each time wordpress upgrade to new version..in case I have to do it, how and what files I have to modify
