Please provide us clarifying screenshot – where exactly you can’t see markers?
If you want to manage map markers, you should open required map settings and view all markers under the map preview: http://prntscr.com/k39ooq
Is it list empty in your map settings?

Hitting Save Map might bring them back, or not! They’re on the live map at the moment so I don#t want to hit save in case they all get lost.
Based on provided screenshots, I can suggest that you can’t see list of markers when creating a new map. This is correct plugin functioning.
Markers are showing only for map, where they were created. For the new map you should create it’s own markers or import existing ones in PRO version.
But this is not a new map. I need to edit the existing markers on an existing map. They aren’t being listed when I edit it.
Please contact us via internal support. We should try to investigate this issue on your website, unfortunately I can’t reproduce it on our testing servers.

I have the same problem with version 1.9.6. I had to install back version 1.9.1
