Matomo causes ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

Hi!

I have several sites where Matomo causes ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT.

Typically, I can make a couple of “clicks” around the Matomo plugin menu before it happens.

The error log shows following: (I have anonymized the error log by replacing my IP with XXX and the domain with yyy.yy)

However, the same errors appear in the log on sites that are hosted on a server that does not block me. In fact, this seem to happen on all sites where Matomo is installed.

Why do these error appear and how do I fix it?

Hello @naturligtvismedia I found a similar issue on our Forum: https://forum.matomo.org/t/ip-address-blocked-after-opening-matomo-err-connection-timed-out/48045/8

Could you please add this line to the config file and let us know if this will fix the issue:
```
enable_required_directories_diagnostic = 0
```

Hi @emermatomo!

Could you please be a bit more specific on where to add this line? I have tried both wp-config.php and /wp-content/plugins/matomo/config/config.php and the first option crashed the whole site, the latter crashed the backend of the site.

Hello Anna. Sorry for the late response. Upon replicating the issue, it should be added to common.config.ini.php.

The path should be: /wp-content/plugins/matomo/config

Please let us know how it goes.

This seems to work, the errors do not appear anymore.

Uponupdate of Matomo, might this file change and do I then have to add this line again?

What causes these errors in Matomo? I haven’t checked all installations, but all those I have checked do have this issue. It doesn’t seem like a good solution having to add this line to the config file for every installation.

Hi @emermatomo or anyone else at Matomo,

As suspected, the last update reintroduced the errors again and removed the code I added.

Do you have any plans to solve this problem or a feasible solution for this?

Hi @naturligtvismedia. Sorry for the late response. We just have release a new version of Matomo for WordPress. Could you please update your Matomo plugin to 4.15.2 and let us know if the issue still persist?

The issue still persists in version 4.15.2

This update you are talking about was released beginning of october and in my last messade from october 13 I already confirmed that the issue persisted after update to the latest version.
