• Hello,

I was wondering if there is a “recommended” number of WP installations/sites per server?

We have a VPS server (2.4GHz Xenon x 8) that is currently running 4 WP installs with separate domain names for each, and we are about to add another one. Our monthly bandwidth averages around 100G for the server (including all 4 sites).

Is there an adverse effect of some sort when running “too many” WP installs on a server? Are there any “golden rules”?

    Thanks.

No, because each server can have a different amount of space, memory, and CPU power available to it. Additionally, each Linux distribution consumes different amounts of resources, so which OS your server is running plays its own significant part in this.

There is no such golden rule, but when a server starts hitting too many CPU cycles, you’re using up almost all of the RAM, or there’s no space left, it might be time to move the largest site to its own server.
