• I am having problems accessing my media library. First, I was not able to access it from my dashboard, but could access it by clicking “add media” on a new post page. Now, I am unable to access from anywhere on the site. I have tried to deactivate the plugins, and it did not work. I also updated to wordpress 3.6 to see if it would work, but it didn’t change anything. Please let me know if there are solutions to this, as I am unbale to do updates now, and I would like to avoid having to build up another site from scratch.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

You might want to check your .htaccess file. Whenever I get a 500 error that’s the first place I look. Recently, there have been instances when we upload an image or change something in the page SEO area (using Yoast’s SEO plugin) and when the page is saved, the .htaccess gets nuked. Whether this is a WP issue or an issue with our hosts remains to be seen. Media Temple & Rackspace Cloud are where we have seen these kinds of issues.

Thanks for the replies! How can I check my .htaccess file?

FTP into your server and it should be in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
