Media library doesn't load after import

I just exported all my content from a local host instance of wordpress and then imported it into another. The images did not import. When I tried to look at the media library (via wp-admin page) the media library doesn’t load anything. I also can’t upload anything to the media library (given the “cannot upload at this time error). I did the following:

1. copy and pasted the images from one instance to the new one
2. edited the DB to point to the new location (in this case a new localhost:port_number)

It’s still not working and I’m stumped.

Anyone got any ideas?
