Takr a look at Shortcodes for BuddyPress, this includes “highly customisable” members lists so should do the trick.
Alternatively you could ake a look at BuddyPress Shortcodes, it’s got a members grid and you should be able to set the type to equal newest. It’s not been updated in four years though but still being used by a lot of sites.

I currently use your plugin on my site and thought I could achieve what I wanted with your plugin.
Might be a good idea to try and work this feature into your plugin in the future as your plugin seems quite comprehensive and the most up to date.

Yes, I’m thinking about it, just tried BuddyPress Shortcodes and it still works fine – no errors and displays a two column grid of the newest users with too much whitespace between for my liking, but you should be able to change that with CSS.
