Is anyone else seeing this error?

[05-Jan-2025 20:15:10 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 266240 bytes) in /home2/xxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/content-control/classes/Services/Globals.php on line 169

I tried rolling back to 2.4 but nothing changed.

It manifests as a critical error. Disabling Content Control seems to fix it, but I do need the functionality it provides.

Update: version 2.3 seems to work OK.

We’re running WP 6.7 on php 8.2.18 at Bluehost.

    Hi, @bearstar @kimmyx
I have a trouble about the error.
The moment I turn on the plugin, I get a 500 error (White screen of death)

I really need the plugin, but I turned it off because of an error.
    please check this issue.

    Thank you for reading.

+ I reinstall the ver 2.3. and work done

Same here, after update to 2.5.0: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 266240 bytes) in /data/web/virtuals/314931/virtual/www/wp-content/plugins/content-control/classes/Services/Globals.php on line 169

Roll back to 2.3.0 solved issue for now

@bearstar @pesiiin @gnata – Can you elaborate on your usage of the plugin. Are you using global restrictions, block controls, shortcodes?

Do you have a lot of usage, or just one global restriction for example.

Good timing, Daniel. I thought that perhaps 2.6 had solved the issue, but it’s apparently still happening:

[14-Mar-2025 16:24:35 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 266240 bytes) in /home2/empowfe0/public_html/wp-content/plugins/content-control/classes/Services/Globals.php on line 169

Rolling back to 2.3 fixes the critical error messages and whites screen for non-logged in visitors (and the site became super slow)

To your question, we have 4 rules, each pretty generic with nothing changed from defaults: Restriction > Redirect > Login and back > One page selected

@bearstar – Pushing an update shortly that should reduce heavily the memory usage in these particular functions. No idea if it resolves yours specifically but was a safe & performant change just he same.

Thanks, Daniel. I found another plugin that might have been filling the stack: Search Exclude

@bearstar thanks, got that on my radar now.
