    I know nothing about coding, and was wondering whether there is a way to change the way the links work in the main menu bar? For example, I would like a hover color effect when moving my mouse over the page links in the menu.

    That kind of thing is done in the CSS code — you would need to have custom CSS set up — perhaps use jetpack plug in. Then post a link to your site and someone can help you with the CSS code to add.
