Menu language switch items not showing

Hi,

In my custom menu my 2 (language flags) are not showing. What is showing are 2 ‘lit-up’ rectangles when i mouse over where they should be in the menu. In the bottom left i can see they are both pointing to the current page (no matter which page form the menu i choose).

I’ve been searching around the net and came across something similar, but they were posts from 4 years ago and the solutions i read were not so straight forward and clear to me. I haven’t been able to find any posts on this issue recently. If i de-check the custom menu option (so using the standard menu) the flags do appear, but the menu is postioned where i don’t want it.

I confess i’m a bit of a newbie, so if i missed something, i do apologies.
